The Beginning of my Journey.

I have to provide a little background. I was diagnosed with COPD in May of 2022. The last two Years have been uneventful with this diagnosis. The best way I know how to proceed with this blog is to set it up with a daily log on what has transpired from the moment I felt a little off. Have patience I am new at this blogging.

I had been feeling a little fatigued and decided I probably had a sinus infection and thought since I have COPD I wanted to nip it in the bud and get some antibiotics and steriods going. The doctor agreed and provided me with five days of antibiotic and prednisone.

Still not feeling like the medication did it’s job I contacted the clinic to see if perhaps they could up the ante per se. No luck they wanted me to come back in. I was frustrated and thought to myself I’ll ride is out and get some rest.

I took off work early and went back to clinic. I advised doctor I was still tired and lots of phlegm. I did state I had no pain and my Oxygen level was good at 96%. My vitals all good at clinic. Doctor request I come back following day for Chest Xray… possible pneumonia.

Went back to clinic had chest x-Ray done advised would get call with results. Call received after 5 after clinic was closed a message was left but no information provided. I called received answering service and demanded to speak with someone regarding my results. I was advised I had a possible collasped lung and if I felt any worse should go to ER. After speaking with my sons my youngest demanded I go to ER. My youngest son contacted my oldest son and requested he take me…thinking I would listen to my oldest son more, which I did. Once in the ER I told my son to leave because it may be a long night. My vitals were great, oxygen level 96% and they decided to have CT Scan done. Scan came back with mass on left upper lobe. Doctor wasn’t certain but stated possible mucus plug or tumor and they would be admitting me with the hope of having a bronchoscospy done the next day.

Finally after noon and me complaining I was hungry and very thisty… nothing since the night before because of possible Bronchoscopy. Two pulmonologist came in and advised unable to perform procedure until maybe next week..possibly Wednesday but wanted me to stay in hospital in case they could get me in sooner. Thankfully another pulmonologist came in and talk with me and said no reason to keep me admitted but be sure to contact the pulmonologist office for the scheduled procedure.

I came home and my sister Dawn (heaven sent) came in from Des Moines to help me. My brother Steve also was at my home to assist because I was hosting a family reunion on Saturday the 20th. My brother Ron also started assisting by preparing food. God Bless them for all their help!
